Parkway Gardens
We reimagine parkway strips into gardens! Parkways are often overlooked, untended, and unlikely places for gardens. In partnership with neighbors and local businesses, we transform them into hyperlocal green spaces that change how community members experience the streetscapes that make up our built environment.
Installation & Maintenance
Our Parkway Gardens are designed, installed, and maintained by our team and volunteers. We train local community members and volunteers to lead maintenance to ensure our gardens have a long-term care plan. Plants and supplies are often donated, and we borrow tools, hoses, seeds, and more from our neighbors!
Educational Opportunities & Professional Development
We host garden maintenance monthly meetups where we share lessons in landscaping and ecology. We also developed a Resident Gardener Program where we hire local youth and entry-level professionals to support garden maintenance and programming.
Arts & Ecology
We believe that community arts are a great way to invite more people into the world of plants and ecology. We often integrate arts, music, and beautification projects into our garden programming. Most notably, we host an annual event— Pisces Plantasia: A Night of Plants and Feelings— to celebrate the community of folks who support our parkway gardens.
Habitat Connectivity &
Regenerative Gardening
Our Parkway Gardens expand access to high quality, local green space by building native habitat and prioritizing soil health. We not only support native plants and wildlife, but we also care for our soil microbes by applying mulch, compost, and soil amendments!

In partnership with Young People to the Front since 2026This Parkway Garden is led by a group of volunteers called the Lucile Garden Ballers who steward the parkway adjacent to Kim’s Serene Gardens on Lucile and Hoover. They are supported by a Neighborhood Purpose Grant from the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council.
